Orioles place Berken on DL

08/16/2010 - Baltimore, MD (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Baltimore Orioles have placed pitcher Jason Berken on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 13, with right shoulder inflammation.
In 41 appearances this season, Berken has thrown 62 1/3 innings, the most of any American League reliever. He has posted a 3.03 earned-run average and 3-3 record, while striking out 45 and walking 19.
To take Berken's roster spot, the Orioles recalled Rick VandenHurk from Triple-A Norfolk.
VandenHurk, who Baltimore acquired from Florida on July 31, has not pitched for the Orioles this season. He appeared in two games for the Marlins in June and made three starts at Norfolk, going 1-1 with a 2.18 ERA for the Tides.
